WHO WE ARE
A Shared Curiosity That Grew Into a Community
In 2016, a group of members from the University of Delaware’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute came together with a shared curiosity about bees and the important role they play in our local environment.
As they learned more about beekeeping, pollinators, and the challenges facing bee populations, that curiosity grew into a commitment to make a difference. The Lewes Beekeeping Club was born.
Today, the club brings together beekeepers and bee enthusiasts of all experience levels to learn from one another, share knowledge, and promote responsible beekeeping and pollinator conservation throughout our community.
OUR MISSION
Helping Bees & Beekeepers Thrive
Our mission is to teach the art and science of beekeeping while promoting healthy hives and a greater understanding of the vital role bees and other pollinators play in our environment.
Through education, hands-on learning, and community outreach, we strive to give our members the knowledge and confidence to become responsible beekeepers while inspiring others to help protect pollinators.
What Brings Us Together
LEARN
Beekeeping is always a learning experience. Our hive visits provide members and guests with a living classroom where they can observe the bees, ask questions, build their skills, and learn the art and science of caring for a healthy hive.
SHARE
Education extends beyond our own members. The club offers presentations and community outreach programs that introduce children, families, and local organizations to honey bees, pollination, and the important connection between bees and the foods we enjoy every day.
CONNECT
The club is also about community. Members build friendships through club meetings, social activities, field trips, hive visits, and other shared experiences. And each summer, we celebrate the fruits of our labor as we extract, process, and share honey from our hives.
What began as a small group interested in learning more about bees has grown into a welcoming community of people who share a fascination with beekeeping and a commitment to protecting pollinators.
